[ it sure is! if she could see it, penny would approve. ]
I have been hearing many Otherworlders talking about "Valentine's Day". And since Valentine is your last name, I was wondering if you could tell me what it is. I'm very curious!
It's a celebration of love! It's the time when every young girl is filled with a fiery passion to find her valentine who she will share a day of love with--and, perhaps, for the rest of her life!
It also includes eating a lot of chalk, though I'm still not quite sure why. They're shaped like cute little hearts covered with nice messages, but I don't know why humans eat them.
Anyway, it's super important! Extremely important. It's a day where one must acquire a valentine.
I am not sure where the chalk eating fits in, but I think the rest of it makes sense... Though I've never been filled with a passion to find a valentine before!
[ but she is a young girl, so maybe she should be taking this more seriously! she finds herself straightening up a little. ]
[Shit. Elphelt has never had any luck with that herself. But, hey, not knowing anything about something doesn't mean she isn't an expert, right?]
Well!
They need to be someone you care about. Someone you find cute. Maybe that one person you don't know quite well and have spent all your time admiring them from afar, waiting for an opportunity to break the ice and make your feelings known! Maybe that one person close to you that you don't realize until the day of that they are the one you'd like to be your someone. Or maybe that one person you cross paths with on your daily commute, too timid to introduce yourself...
[??? Does anyone here have a daily commute?]
Anyway! Once you identify that someone you would like to make feel special and happy, and spend a day with, you offer chocolate as well as possibly flowers, a card, or something original depending on the person's likes. You ask them "will you be my valentine?" and they lock eyes with you and take you by the hand and say 'YES'.
...Or you can wait around for someone else to ask you to be their valentine, but gosh darn it, Penny, we are modern girls and it is well within our right to take the first step ourselves and be assertive, right?!
That all sounds very complicated... There are lots of people that I care about like that!
[ sorry elphelt, she still doesn't really get it... penny does have an understanding of love, but it's of the platonic, familial kind. she gets the concept from sharing a roof with active couples, but the emotions that go along with that are still pretty lost on her. friendship is the only thing she can really compare it to. ]
[One isn't enough? Goodness, Elphelt hadn't pegged Penny as a player. Maybe she's the one that should be getting a lesson here.]
Um. Well, no! Not at all. It's mainly about finding your special Valentine, but there are many types of love, which is what the holiday is all about! So, friends, family, or even...if you have more than one special someone. I won't judge.
So long as you're doing something for someone you love or could love, then you're doing it right, I think.

[Voice only or not, Elphelt salutes because that seems like the sort of thing you do when saying 'salutations'.]
I will do my best to answer to the best of my ability, Penny!

[Penny, why.]
It is just the single greatest and most important holiday conceived by humanity!

[ she doesn't see at all. ]
Why is that?

Do I have to narrow it down to just one?

[ she still isn't used to celebrating holidays, but this one looks like it's filled with lots of good emotions. count her in! ]
Thank you for your Valentine's expertise. I will make sure to put the knowledge to good use!

[Penny is such a sweet girl full of potential. Hopefully Elphelt doesn't ruin that by teaching her weird things.]
I'm always here to help you with these sorts of things, Penny. I have a lot to learn myself, so we need to stick together.
